A WooCommerce store stops sending order messages after its Microsoft 365 security policy changes. The mailbox still exists, but WordPress can no longer authenticate, and the shared From address may not have Send As permission.
A reliable fix starts by separating those issues. Confirm which Microsoft 365 submission method the tenant permits, who owns the sending identity, and whether that identity may use the visible From address. Then test an actual WordPress event from generation to delivery.
What it means
Microsoft 365 client SMTP submission lets an application send mail through Microsoft’s submission service using an authorized account or application. A typical configuration uses the provider’s documented host, TLS, and a supported authentication method.
Three permissions must line up: the tenant must allow the protocol and authentication method, the mailbox must be allowed to use them, and the authenticated identity must be entitled to send from the chosen address. A successful login does not by itself prove sender authorization.
A realistic WordPress example
Suppose WordPress authenticates with store-mail@example.combut uses orders@example.comas the visible sender. Authentication can succeed while Microsoft 365 rejects or rewrites the message because the first identity lacks Send As permission for the second.

The advanced route
When authentication fails, check the organization-wide SMTP AUTH policy, the mailbox-level setting, the selected authentication grant, and any Conditional Access or security-default restrictions. For a shared address, inspect Send As or Send on Behalf separately.
